Olympus LS-11 With Expanded Memory Captures More Hours Of Studio Quality Audio When You Need It Most

8 Gigabytes of Internal Memory Joins with More Intuitive File Indexing and Editing for Musicians, Broadcasters, Podcasters and Audiophiles Everywhere

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., July 17, 2009 – Olympus, the market leader for portable digital voice recorders and professional dictation devices, builds on its reputation for incredible audio engineering with the new LS-11 Linear PCM Audio Recording Device. The LS-11 has an expanded internal memory capacity of 8 gigabytes, an intuitive interface that enables users to add index marks and edit files within the recorder, and records in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kHz Linear PCM format for digital stereo recordings. For podcasters and other traveling audiophiles who want to keep files small and record basic audio, the LS-11 is optimized for mono-recording as well.

“The LS-11 is great for recording studio-quality music, but its capabilities go far beyond the recording studio,” said Amy Leslie, product manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “The LS-11 is also perfect for capturing birdsongs, creating podcasts and broadcasts, and making audio recordings to accompany photographs. Whether you record an orchestra in 24 bit/96 kHz Linear PCM, or your weekly podcast in mono, the LS-11 offers something for everyone.”

A Recording Studio in Your Pocket

Like its predecessor the LS-10, the LS-11 features uncompressed 24 bit/96kHz Linear PCM recording capability, to capture the rich, dynamic sound quality of music performances like a studio in your pocket. It has the versatility to record and play back in the WAV, MP3 and WMA formats and can record with its internal microphone or by plugging in an external microphone. The LS-11’s value extends beyond the realm of music: nature lovers will enjoy capturing vivid ambient sounds and journalists will meet their deadlines for broadcasts and podcasts with audio that’s ready for the airwaves or digital streaming.

The LS-11 features a Voice Synchronize Recording function, which extends recording time by recording only when the microphone senses sound at the pre-set level. This function saves time by reducing the need to fast-forward past pauses between songs or in conversation. This function allows a musician to set up the LS-11 to start recording a musical performance before it starts. When the recording is played back later, avoid listening to dead air because it has only picked up the performance.

Keep on Track with Index Marks
The LS-11 now allows users to add index marks to files in PCM mode, during recording and playback so they can easily return to key places in a recording. Record a concerto and add an index mark between each new stanza of the classical piece. The LS-11 also features file editing in PCM mode to divide files and make partial cuts right inside the device. It is also possible to move and copy files between the internal memory and the SD card, which makes it easier to switch to a different SD card on the go. For extended jam sessions the LS-11 records up to 23 hours on two AA batteries, longer than many competing Linear PCM recorders.

Record More with 8GB Inside
The LS-11 has 8 gigabytes of internal flash memory to capture lengthy recordings. It also features an SD/SDHC removable media card slot to further expand its capacity by up to 32 gigabytes. During a busy day of recording, changing SD cards is an easy way for users to capture more audio without taking the time to download files to a computer.

Silver Toned Look
The LS-11 features a lightweight aluminum silver hued body with distinctive orange recording buttons and edging on the microphones. A large 1.8-inch backlit LCD is easy to read and shows file information, recording time and events clearly. An ergonomic dial thumb pad provides the user with easy control to play or stop a recording, adjust the volume level, fast-forward and rewind with the touch of one button. Erase and Folder/Index buttons are positioned individually below the thumb dial for easy access.

Speakers for Instant Audio Gratification
The LS-11 can play back the high-quality audio on its built-in stereo speakers with vibrancy and clarity. These speakers allow more than one person to listen to a new recording simultaneously to help collaborating musicians evaluate recording progress on the fly.

No Strings Attached with Wireless Remote
The optional exclusive wireless remote controller empowers users to start and stop the recording of the LS-11 from a distance. This is ideal for live performances when the LS-11 can be placed near the stage and activated from several rows back.

Accessories
The LS-11 ships with Steinberg CUBASE LE 4 Sound editing software with 48 sound tracks and variety of effects, a carrying case, USB cable, audio cable, wind screen, two AA batteries, a strap, an instruction manual and Olympus warranty card. Optional accessories for the LS-11 include an infrared remote control, AC adaptor, two gun microphones (ME-31 and ME-32), Rechargeable Battery (Ni-MH) and Charger, a windjammer, and a white silicone skin.

Pricing and Availability
The LS-11 provides excellent uncompressed audio recording at a fraction of the price of competing Linear PCM recorders. The LS-11 Digital Audio Device has an estimated street price of $399.99 (U.S.) and will be available in September 2009.

Olympus DM-520 , DM-420 New Digital Voice Recorder

Today Olympus unveils two new DM series digital audio devices that have greater capacity to capture more meetings/interviews, create more podcasts, and play back more music, audio books, podcasts and other content than ever before. The DM-520 and DM-420 have increased internal memory (4 gigabytes and 2 gigabytes, respectively) and expandable microSD capacity (up to an additional 16 gigabytes) to record longer than ever before.

“These new Olympus DM series digital audio devices have increased on-board memory and expandable memory with media cards to make it easier to mix business and pleasure,” said Amy Leslie, product manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “With 51 hours of rechargeable battery life, the DM-520 let you capture your work meeting in CD-quality sound, and then listen to your favorite album on the cross-country flight home.”

Super High-Quality Recording In Your Pocket
Both new DM series devices can record and play super high-quality stereo audio content of 44.1 kilohertz (kHz), which is equal to the sound quality of most compact discs. The DM-520 also features uncompressed 16 bit/48kHz Linear PCM recording capability, to capture the rich sound quality of music performances. Users of both devices can download and play back PCM, MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) files. This provides users with extreme flexibility, enabling them to use one device for recording meetings and lectures for work or school, while also enjoying music afterwards for fun.

New Olympus Sonority Software Compatible with PC or Mac
Enjoy your sound with the included easy-to-use Olympus Sonority Software, which facilitates wave data management. You can erase noise, adjust sound effects and divide files, to name a few options. The software allows for uploading, organizing, and emailing of audio files and direct downloading of podcasts. The software also expands your sphere of activities thanks to its compatibility with any PC or Mac.

Memory Capacity and Expandability
The DM-520 has 4 gigabytes of internal memory, while the DM-420 has 2 gigabytes. The audio devices each feature a removable microSD media card slot to further expand capacity by up to 16 gigabytes. During a busy day of recording, changing optional microSD cards is an easy way for users to capture more audio without taking the time to download files to a computer.

Ultra High-Quality Sound for a Variety of Recordings
Thanks to the innovative design of the stereo microphone, quality recordings (voice, music and nature sounds, to name a few) can be easily captured in a variety of situations. Use the “scene modes” based on your current environment. Pick the zoom feature to pinpoint a lecturer’s voice and block out unwanted crowd noise from the background. Separately, open the microphone wide to capture all the subtle sounds in nature. Either way, you’ll enjoy high-quality recordings with well-balanced sound.

Long Lasting Power with Rechargeable Battery Function
Tired of filling landfills with costly disposable batteries? The DM-520 and DM-420 operate for up to 51 hours with two included rechargeable AAA batteries that recharge by plugging into the USB port on any computer for added convenience. In situations where a charge is not available, it is also possible to power these audio devices using easily-obtainable AAA alkaline batteries.

Make the Connection
USB 2.0 high-speed delivers fast downloads and uploads of files to and from the DM-520 and DM-420 using the included USB cable. No need to download any software since you can record in WMA or MP3 formats on the DM-420 and WMA, MP3 and WAV formats on the DM-520. This feature enables users to connect with speed and ease, and once downloaded, files can be archived or emailed to friends and family.

Voice Guidance
The DM-520 and DM-420 feature a voice confirmation function that can be turned on or off. When turned on, the function enables the devices to speak, helping users to navigate the folders and various set-up options. The pleasant automated voice guides users through the onscreen menus for setting date, time and other menu selecting modes. It also confirms by stating the folder name as the user moves from one folder to another. This enables visually challenged users to easily capture recordings and move through the device’s menus, folders and set-up options.

Easily Find What You’re Listening For
The DM-520 and DM-420 digital audio devices deliver an easy-to-use interface that enables users to accurately arrange digital files with unparalleled organization for meetings, dates and reminders. Both have seven folders (five for audio, one for music and one for podcasts) that each hold up to 999 files. The DM-520 and DM-420 also include multi-language support in English, French and Spanish.

Availability
The DM-520 and DM-420 will be available in September 2009. They will include a USB Cable, stereo earphones, case and strap, Olympus Sonority Software and two rechargeable AAA batteries. Additional optional accessories include a remote controller, AC adapter, and battery charger.

Three New recorders from Olympus , WS-400S, WS-510M, WS-500M

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., March 31, 2009 – Today Olympus launches a trio of WS series digital voice recorders and music players that have increased memory for longer use, incredible stereo recording fidelity for hours of high-quality audio and a unique retractable sliding high speed USB port for easy connection to a computer. All three recorders (WS-510M, WS-500M and WS400S) feature an improved intuitive design with larger LCDs for enhanced viewing and controls on the front for navigational ease.

The WS series will sport sleek portable bodies and easily transport essential files directly to and from a computer just like a USB flash memory drive, no USB cable required. For the first time, the WS-510M and WS-500M recharge their batteries via USB connection to a computer, which allows users to save money and reduce their environmental impact by not buying and throwing away disposable batteries.

“Whether you’re in the dorm room, the classroom, or the boardroom, these WS series audio devices are perfect for capturing important meetings, storing critical work files, or listening to your favorite artists,” said Amy Leslie, associate manager, Product Marketing, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “A more intuitive button layout and sliding USB connectivity make it easy to record and upload files, while increased memory enables longer recording than ever before.”

WS-510M and WS-500M: Optimized for Audio Recording and Music Listening
Road warriors will appreciate that the WS-510M and WS-500M both feature double the flash memory of their predecessors (4GB and 2GB) and record more than 1,080 and 540 hours, respectively. Their built-in stereo microphones can record in the highest quality mode: Stereo Extra-High-Quality (STXQ) with dynamic stereo recording capabilities.

But when you want to mix some pleasure with your business, the WS-510M and WS-500M play MP3 and WMA files, and for the first time in a WS-Series they feature WAV (44.1kHz/16bit) audio playback mode. SRS WOW XT effects add higher quality to these popular file formats. Specifically designed for small devices with speakers that are physically located close together, SRS WOW XT technology enables the speakers to capture full-panoramic stereo sound. As a result, the reproduced sound is much closer to what the artists originally intended and delivers to headphones the same immersive and powerful 3D audio experience usually found at a live concert.

Whether they’re capturing the meeting or playing tunes in transit, these devices look just as good as they sound. The WS-500M comes in silver, pink or blue tones to match your individual style, and the WS-510M is available in a dapper grey.

WS-400S: Ready for Business
The sleek WS-400S offers 1GB of internal flash memory to capture up to 272 hours of Windows Media Audio files on its built-in stereo microphone. It now features two new higher-quality recording modes, super standard play (SSP), and super high quality (SHQ) for better sound quality. Its higher quality audio allows users to work more efficiently because their recordings of interviews and lectures will play back better. Clad in a glossy white finish, it’s easy to find even at the dark bottom of a briefcase, handbag or backpack.

Sliding USB Connectivity
For the first time, the WS series audio devices feature a retractable USB port that slides out for easy access to personal computers. This simplifies operation as there is no need for a docking station or cable. When not in use, the USB port neatly tucks back inside.

Improved Intuitive Design with Enlarged LCD
The WS series is outfitted with an ergonomic dial thumb pad enabling the user to easily play or stop a recording, adjust the volume level, fast-forward and rewind with the touch of one button. The Erase/Index and Menu buttons are positioned individually below the thumb dial for easy access during use.

A new larger backlit LCD is easy to read and much more useful when navigating the menu screen. It reveals file information, recording time and events clearly. A stereo microphone is located on the top, and a speaker for audio playback is located on the front of the devices.

Rechargeable Battery Function
Tired of filling landfills with costly disposable batteries? The WS-510M and WS-500M use a single included rechargeable AAA battery that recharges by plugging into the USB port on any computer for added convenience. In situations where a charge is not available, it is also possible to power these audio devices using easily-obtainable AAA alkaline batteries.

Playback Features
Users of the new WS series will benefit from the different playback settings. After capture, the slow playback option allows recordings to be listened to efficiently with playback that is 50 percent slower than real time. The fast playback option allows recordings to be played 50 percent faster than real time. Traditionally, users will keep rewinding to hear what was said, but with slow playback they will be less likely to do so, and they can skip ahead to the sections that are important with fast playback. Also, a repeat playback option enables user to select a specific portion of a file to playback again.

Accessories
WS series digital audio devices are compatible with a range of optional Olympus accessories, including a convenient black leather case that will be available for $19.99.

Availability
The WS-510M, WS-500M and WS-400S will be available in April 2009.
